Welcome back to Montevallo, everyone! Kelly and I are excited to be teaching an interdisciplinary course on the national parks. This semester we will explore a range of American landscape paintings, photographs, literature, documentaries, iPhone apps, and many other representations of National Parks in the United States. Our goal is to discuss the ways that our national parks system has reinforced attitudes toward the natural world that are wrapped up in the question of what it means to be an American.
Once you have logged onto the blog and created a user profile, please take a few minutes to read around and get familiar with what we’ll be doing in class this semester. You’ll find extensive guidelines on how to blog, helpful links on the sidebar, and research guides that are created to help you discover interesting ideas for writing. To the right, you’ll also discover a link to the course syllabus. In the next few days, we hope you will find a few example posts that profile the kind of writing we’ll be asking you to do this semester. These are kinds of “genres” of writing that you are invited to do all semester.
If you have any questions along the way, please don’t hesitate to ask either one of us. Our contact information is located at the top of the blog. We look forward to getting to know you, in person and on the blog!
